PHOENIX — With Buckeye now listed as the U.S. Census Bureau’s fastest growing city in the country, it was in need of a new fire station.

Now, it’s officially in the works.

City officials and firefighters on Wednesday broke ground for what will eventually be home to Buckeye Fire Station 705.

“Within four minutes we can pretty well cover this community and it’s a godsend to have it,” Buckeye Mayor Jackie Meck said.

Expected to be completed this fall, the new fire station will feature three bays, eight bunk rooms, a community room and a substation for the Buckeye Police Department.

“For the last twelve years, their fire station has operated out of a temporary facility and this is actually going to give it some permanency,” Buckeye Fire Chief Bob Costello said. “And it’s more centrally located.”

Positioned north of Interstate 10 off the Sun Valley Parkway, the fire station is centrally located in a growing neighborhood. The Buckeye airport located a few miles south.

According to the city of Buckeye’s website, it’s likely they will stay in the top 10 fastest growing cities for years to come. With a planning area of over 640 square miles, it is only 5% built out today.

We want to hear from you.
