2-year-old girl in critical condition after dog mauls her in Phoenix

PHOENIX — A 2-year-old girl was in critical condition after she was mauled by a dog Tuesday in Phoenix.
Police said the girl was at a residence near 35th and Campbell avenues with her mom, the dog and several other people when the incident happened.
The dog, described as a pit bull, snatched the girl from her mom’s arms and attacked her around 6:35 p.m., according to police.
Police said someone in the house fatally shot the dog, but no one would tell officers who shot it and no gun was recovered.
The girl was hospitalized with serious injuries.
