PHOENIX – If you never stopped calling the West Valley’s racetrack Phoenix Raceway, you’re ahead of the game.

The Avondale facility announced Friday it had reached a mutual agreement with ISM Connect to end their naming rights deal after two years.

“We look forward to transitioning back to Phoenix Raceway, a brand that has built a strong affinity across the racing community since our opening in 1964,” the track said in press release. “The repositioning of Phoenix Raceway aligns with NASCAR’s integrated sponsorship strategy and supports ISM Connect’s efforts to shift their focus from brand awareness to delivering their next generation technology at NASCAR facilities.”

The track went by ISM Raceway – named after the Pennsylvania-based company that specializes in venue technology — in 2018 and 2019.

The short-lived name was adopted while the facility was undergoing a massive $178 million renovation, which included an ISM Connect digital network.

Phoenix Raceway will be in the spotlight in November when it hosts the NASCAR Championship Weekend for the first time.

When the track was awarded the prestigious event, NASCAR Vice President Mike Helton told KTAR News 92.3 FM the upgrades were a factor.

The first races at the track under the new/old name, FanShield 500 NASCAR Weekend, will take place March 6-8.

We want to hear from you.
