PHOENIX — An 18-year-old male and an unborn baby of a 15-year-old female died Thursday after a car struck several people following a collision in northwest Phoenix.

Two vehicles collided around 11:15 a.m. near 35th Avenue and Bell Road, Phoenix Police Department Sgt. Maggie Cox said in a press conference.

Police said a 63-year-old woman was headed eastbound in a Ford Mustang on Bell Road and preparing to make a left-hand turn, while a 25-year-old man in a Dodge Avenger was traveling westbound.

The Avenger traveled onto the north sidewalk after the collision, striking several pedestrians who had just got off a bus, police said.

Speed appeared to be a factor for the Avenger, police said.

“This is a tragedy. People were just getting off the bus,” Cox said. “We can’t emphasize enough, slow down.”

Police, who ruled out impairment, said Friday they plan to submit manslaughter, aggravated assault and endangerment charges.

The 18-year-old male, 15-year-old female and an 18-year-old female were taken to the hospital. Four others were struck but not transported, Cox said.

The young man, Jonathan Marroquin, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The 15-year-old female, who was about 31 weeks pregnant, and 18-year-old female suffered injuries that weren’t considered life threatening.

The drivers weren’t hospitalized.
