PHOENIX – A fatal accident Friday afternoon left one person dead and four others injured in north Phoenix, according to Phoenix Police.
Around 12:03 p.m., a 2019 Ford F550 work truck was driving northbound on Cave Creek Road when the 21-year-old male driver attempted to make a left turn onto westbound Sonoran Desert Drive, Sgt. Tommy Thompson said in an email.
The driver collided with a Valley Metro van traveling southbound in the intersection. The van attempted to proceed through the intersection of Sonoran Desert Drive when it collided with the truck and was redirected into a metal utility pole on the southwest corner.
There were four adult male passengers in the van, ranging in age from 32 to 58-years-old, who sustained minor injuries.
The driver of the van, 59-year-old Juan Carlos Molina-Limon, sustained numerous injuries.
He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.
The 21-year-old driver remained on scene. He was not injured.
The investigation is still ongoing, but impairment does not appear to have been a factor.
