Avondale breaks ground on $9.5M expansion for police headquarters

PHOENIX – The West Valley suburb of Avondale broke ground last week on a $9.5 million police headquarters expansion project.

The Civic Center police station will grow by 14,800 square feet, providing space for a modernized property and evidence room that can hold more than 65,000 items.

The project also will include renovations on 7,600 square feet of existing space for administrative offices and meeting areas.

Members of the City Council and police department were among those who took part in Wednesday’s groundbreaking ceremony.

Abacus Project Management, Architekton and Core Construction are teaming up on the project, which is scheduled to be completed in early 2021.

The station, which is located at 11485 Civic Center Drive, will remain in operation during construction.
