PHOENIX — An Anthem pet rescue is raising money for a severely injured puppy who was found tied to fence.
Champ was found Tuesday in New River with maggot-infested gashes to his face and eyes.
He was rushed to the Daisy Mountain Veterinary Hospital for urgent care and is currently recovering but faces a long road to better health.
The Anthem Pets Animal Rescue posted video (WARNING: Graphic images) showing the dog’s wounds.
Champ may need to have one of his eyes surgically removed, and even if it is saved he won’t regain sight in it.
The cattle dog mix also has several broken ribs, broken bones in his face and a cranial fracture.
Those who want to donate to help pay Champ’s medical expenses can do so through Anthem Pets Animal Rescue’s PayPal account or the Arizona Gives website.
The rescue believes Champ will have to remain in the hospital for a while to ease his recovery.
“Champ is sweet to everyone and open to getting help even with all he has been through,” the rescue said in a Facebook post. “He lets the vet techs know he is hurting when they touch him but stays sweet.”
