PHOENIX – Authorities were investigating Monday afternoon after a Glendale police officer shot a homicide suspect in west Phoenix.

The suspect, whose injuries weren’t life-threatening, was wanted for a fatal shooting that morning, Sgt. Jay O’Neill with the Glendale Police Department told KTAR News 92.3 FM.

The suspect, who was identified Tuesday as 40-year-old Julius Grant, was shot near 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road around 2 p.m., according to Glendale police.

No officers were injured during the incident.

“Officers located the suspect inside a vehicle, at which time the suspect presented a threat to the officers and at least one detective fired striking the suspect,” O’Neill said.

Police said Grant displayed a handgun out the vehicle’s window, which prompted at least one officer to fire. Grant was taken to the hospital to treat his wounds.

It was the fourth shooting involving Glendale police this year, according to statistics tracked by KTAR News 92.3 FM, and the 37th officer-involved shooting the Phoenix area.

The earlier incident took place at Integrity Staffing Solutions near 95th Avenue and Camelback Road in Glendale around 9:30 a.m., police said.

Grant used to work at the business and was upset over a pay issue, police said.

After a dispute, multiple shots were fired and one employee was hit before the suspect fled. The victim, identified Tuesday as 50-year-old Scott Isaacson of Phoenix, died in the hospital Monday, police said.

Grant will be booked on first-degree murder and aggravated assault charges after he is released from the hospital, police said.
