PHOENIX — The central Phoenix night will be lit up with holiday colors Saturday during the annual APS Electric Light Parade.
The holiday favorite, presented by the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department, will feature more than 90 entries displaying hundreds of lights. The theme for the 33rd edition of the parade is “Walking in a Desert Wonderland.”
Things get started at 7 p.m. on Central Avenue at Montebello Avenue (just south of Bethany Home Road) with the parade coming to a close next to the Phoenix VA Health Care System on Seventh Street and Indian School Road.
Spectators are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs for seating and arrive early, as people have previously arrived three or more hours before the start to reserve their spot.
Coolers are allowed, however, alcohol and glass containers are prohibited.
Road closures will occur from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Central Avenue from Camelback Road to Bethany Home Road, Seventh Street from Indian School Road to Osborn Road, and Camelback Road from First Avenue to Seventh Street.
People can get an up-close view of the floats lit up before the parade during judging and pre-parade activities Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the North Phoenix Baptist Church on 5757 N. Central Ave.
An International Children’s Festival will also take place at the church Friday evening, with a free interactive area featuring games, arts and crafts, and lessons about how different countries celebrate the holidays.
