PHOENIX — Car collectors with an eye for the extraordinary and a deep checkbook will be enticed by a rare Lamborghini that will be up for auction in Scottsdale in January.

A 1985 Lamborghini Countach QV Downdraft will be available at the Russo and Steele auction that takes place Jan. 15-19.

Less than a third of all Countach models built were Downdraft variants. The luxury car has only 9,750 miles on the odometer despite being almost 35 years old.

The Countach up for auction was 100% restored to its original specifications by specialists at a cost of almost $300,000, according to a press release.

“This is probably the most beautiful example of a Countach Downdraft you will see anywhere,” Drew Alcazar, president and CEO of Russo and Steele, said in the release. “Even by today’s standards, the car is quite powerful and even though it’s almost 35 years old, its design is timeless and the stuff of supercar fantasy.”

The car was the first of its kind to be imported into the United States by Al Copeland, the owner of Popeyes Chicken.

The mileage is low because Copeland kept it in his New Orleans car museum for 15 years, according to the release.

The Russo and Steele auction has a new site this year, just off the side of the Loop 101 and near Scottsdale Road.

We want to hear from you.
