PHOENIX — The co-owner of a popular Tempe bar said it is closing its doors Tuesday because its landlord is selling the building.
Nick Nicholas told KTAR News 92.3 FM that the buyer of the building on the corner of 5th Street and College Avenue did not want to have a bar, leaving College Bar and Grill no choice but to close.
Nicholas said the sale of the building is expected to be completed some time next week, which is why the bar is closing so abruptly.

“We had to either move to a new location or have to convince the buyer to have a bar and we were unsuccessful in our attempts at that,” Nicholas said.
The bar had only been open since early 2018, but was a convenient and popular spot for Arizona State University sports fans because of its close proximity to Sun Devil Stadium and Desert Financial Arena.
Nicholas said they are in the process of looking for a new location for the bar and intend to reopen as quickly as possible.
“We were unbelievably grateful to build the community we were able to in the two years we’ve been here and forge the relationships we have,” Nicholas said.
