Woman and 3-year-old girl injured, airlifted from Piestewa Peak
PHOENIX — A 3-year-old girl and her mother were airlifted from Piestewa Peak on Tuesday afternoon after they were injured in a fall.
Phoenix Fire Capt. Rob McDade said the woman was carrying her daughter in a hiking backpack when the mom fell and injured her lower leg.
The child also fell and suffered facial injuries but was awake and crying when crews arrived, McDade said.
He said crews used the big wheel to move the pair 50 yards down the mountain to the helicopter landing zone, where they were airlifted to a hospital.
Both the mom and child were in stable condition, McDade said.
No further details were immediately available.
