PHOENIX — The number of people arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in Arizona over Thanksgiving weekend was down from 2018, according to the latest figures from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.

There were 330 people arrested on suspicion of DUI from Wednesday through Saturday, according to the report.

That figure was down from 420 people in 2018 and 377 in 2017.

The number of drivers arrested for suspicion of extreme DUI, which are for those stopped with a blood alcohol content of 0.15 or more, was also down.

There were 64 extreme DUI arrests compared to 88 in 2018.

The average blood alcohol content of the 330 arrested was 0.139. The legal BAC in Arizona is 0.08.

About 2,500 law enforcement officers worked during the weekend, the report said.

“These statistics are the result of the dedication and training of police and highway patrol officers, sheriff deputies, volunteers, and other law enforcement personnel that comprise the DUI Task Forces throughout Arizona,” Alberto Gutier, director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, said in a press release.

“Our goal is to reduce crashes, fatalities and injuries on our streets and highways by enforcing DUI and traffic laws in our state.”
