PHOENIX – It won’t be in a park or on the Fourth of July, but it will be a Saturday when musical stalwarts Chicago stop in Phoenix with Rick Springfield on the bill.

The veteran performers will play their hits June 20 at Ak-Chin Pavilion as part of a 2020 North American tour.

Tickets go on sale to the general public Friday at 10 a.m. Presales start Tuesday.

Chicago has been churning out horn-laden, R&B-tinged rock and pop gems for more than 50 years, including classics such as “Saturday in the Park,” “25 or 6 to 4,” “Hard to Say I’m Sorry” and “You’re the Inspiration.”

With sales of more than 100 million albums to their credit, Chicago was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.

Springfield, a former teen heartthrob who turned 70 this year, released his first album in 1972. But he didn’t reach star status until 1981’s “Working Class Dog,” which featured his signature song, “Jessie’s Girl.”

His fame expanded through an acting career, most notably as Dr. Noah Drake on the soap opera “General Hospital.”

Chicago last played in Phoenix at Celebrity Theatre in February 2019.

Springfield came through the Valley in June for a show at Wild Horse Pass Hotel and Casino in Chandler.

We want to hear from you.
