PHOENIX — If you like living in the fast lane, then you’re in luck.
Several parts of Grand Avenue (U.S. 60) in the northwest Valley began seeing an increased speed limit Thursday, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
Grand Avenue between Thunderbird and Reems roads has seen a rise from 45 mph to 50 mph.
The speed limit along the remainder of U.S. 60 between R.H. Johnson Boulevard and Reems Road has also been heightened from 45 mph to 55 mph.
The changes are an effort to reduce speed differences along Grand Avenue west of Thunderbird Road, according to ADOT.
Conditions are at their safest when traffic is traveling at similar speeds, according to traffic engineers.
The agency waited until nearby construction projects were completed to make the changes.
