PHOENIX — Newly released surveillance video shows a man terrorizing customers and employees at a Phoenix IHOP before he was arrested earlier this fall.

Joe Ernest Meza, 47, is seen approaching the two women at the restaurant near 51st Avenue and Interstate 10 on Sept. 29 around 3:30 p.m. in footage obtained by ABC15.

Meza hits both the women in the head with a coffee pot before throwing it at one of them while they try to flee.

When one woman comes back for her purse, Meza throws a stand from the lobby at her.

Another video shows one of the women entering the kitchen and hiding behind an employee before Meza walks in and chases them out.

Another angle shows a family with a baby fleeing the restaurant after Meza attacks the women.

According to court documents, Meza walked around the restaurant and went through customers’ property, taking a purse that had a cellphone and passport in it.

Police responded to multiple 911 calls and arrested Meza after they found him running through the parking lot.

He was charged with two counts each of aggravated assault and assault with intent to injure, and one count each of theft and disorderly conduct.

According to the documents, Meza has previously been arrested for criminal damage, burglary, assault and more.
