This had to be terrifying for the victim.

“It was Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019, at about 7 o’clock at night,” says Phoenix Police Sgt. Jamie Rothschild. “This happened at the Cricket Wireless store at 29th Avenue and Dunlap.”

A man walked in who was obviously trying to hide his identity.

“We believe he’s a white male, 18 to 22 years old, with tattoos on his left hand,” says Sgt. Rothschild.

He immediately found the woman who was working in the store, grabbed her, walked her to the register and took money. Then the man, who simulated having a weapon, ordered her onto the floor in the back of the store while he continued to steal items.

She wasn’t hurt.

“We’re very fortunate in this case that we have a clear photo of someone we’re calling a suspect,” says Sgt. Rothschild. “But we really need his side of the story.”

The story is the murder of 38-year-old Chad Harris on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019. It happened just after 5 p.m. on the northeast corner of 19th Avenue and Glendale.

“It’s a very popular, well-traveled area and it’s essentially broad daylight,” says Sgt. Rothschild.

The suspect, who has a distinctive star tattoo on the top of his left hand, and Harris got into a fight.

During the fight, the suspect took out a gun and fatally shot Harris.
