PHOENIX — If you’re a veteran in the Valley, there are two cities that are better than most to live, according to one ranking.

Scottsdale and Gilbert were highly ranked in WalletHub’s list of the top places for veterans in the nation, coming in at No. 5 and No. 8, respectively.

The personal finance website considered four main factors in its ranking of the country’s 100 largest cities — employment, economy, quality of life and health.

Scottsdale especially performed well in the quality of life category, trailing just San Diego and Las Vegas.

The quality of life category was made up of factors such as family-friendliness and retiree-friendliness.

Scottsdale also came in at No. 5 for the city with the lowest percentage of veterans in poverty.

Gilbert, the Valley’s other high-performing city for veterans, was even better in that subcategory, ranking No. 3.

The East Valley suburb also ranked No. 3 in the economy category, which included factors like the share of veterans living in poverty and median veteran income.

Other Arizona cities that made the list were Chandler (No. 26), Mesa (No. 37), Tucson (No. 57) and Phoenix (No. 60).

Tampa, Florida, was the No. 1 city for veterans while Detroit was No. 100.

We want to hear from you.
