PHOENIX — Valley drivers are getting a break from major freeway closures this weekend.

The busiest work area will be around the new Loop 202 Congressman Ed Pastor Freeway near Interstate 10 in Chandler.

The freeway was renamed from the South Mountain Freeway in October to honor the late congressman.

The westbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway will be narrowed to one lane near Kyrene Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for construction on the new freeway, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

On the other side of the Loop 202 in Ahwatukee, the westbound interim lanes between 40th and 32nd streets and the eastbound Loop 202 between 24th and 40th streets will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for paving.

Both I-10 ramps to to the westbound Loop 202/Pecos Road will also be closed during that time.

In the North Valley, the Loop 101 Pima Freeway will be narrowed to two lanes in both directions between Seventh Street and Seventh Avenue from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for a widening project.

Also at the Loop 101, Scottsdale Road will be closed in both directions from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for bridge work as part of a widening project.

The Loop 101 on-ramps at Scottsdale Road will remain open.

Several Valley freeway ramps, however, will have closures this weekend.

The westbound I-10 on-ramp at 67th Avenue will be closed from 5 a.m. to noon Saturday for traffic-sensor installation.

The westbound I-10 on-ramp at 75th Avenue will be closed from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, also for traffic sensor installation.

Finally, the westbound Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway off-ramp at Van Buren Street will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 4:30 a.m. Saturday for sign work.
