PHOENIX — Valley drivers are getting a break from major freeway closures this weekend.
The busiest work area will be around the new Loop 202 Congressman Ed Pastor Freeway near Interstate 10 in Chandler.
The freeway was renamed from the South Mountain Freeway in October to honor the late congressman.
The westbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway will be narrowed to one lane near Kyrene Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for construction on the new freeway, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
On the other side of the Loop 202 in Ahwatukee, the westbound interim lanes between 40th and 32nd streets and the eastbound Loop 202 between 24th and 40th streets will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for paving.
