PHOENIX – A Phoenix university recently received national accreditation for its nursing master’s degree program.

Ottawa University announced Wednesday that its nursing Master of Science program was granted accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

The Kansas-based private Christian university offers the online-only degree through its Phoenix campus.

“Many of our bachelors’ graduates have been anxious for this added approval, as has been the case for all of us at Ottawa,” Chancellor Kevin Eichner said in a press release.

“We are very proud of this program and appreciative of the CCNE designation.”

CCNE is a voluntary and autonomous national accreditation agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

According to the commission’s website, accreditation “is an indication of confidence in the ability of the parent institution to offer a program of quality, deserving of public approbation.”

Under the process, colleges must prepare for CCNE’s on-site evaluation for at least a year.

Ottawa University’s accreditation is good for five years, the maximum allowed by CCNE for newly approved programs.

“Accreditation from the CCNE means Ottawa University is poised to help the national effort to address the critical shortage of nursing as well as continue to prepare nursing professionals for leadership positions,” Dr. Kathy Kump, the school’s director of nursing, said in the release.

“We are grateful for the commitment and contributions of our university leadership, experienced faculty and the nursing advisory board in this effort to earn CCNE accreditation.”

We want to hear from you.
