PHOENIX — The city of Tempe is hosting an open house to celebrate the completion of a new fire station.

The community event for Fire Medical Rescue Station 7 will happen on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the station’s home of 8607 S. McClintock Dr., according to a press release.

The open house will show off several features of the city’s seventh fire station, including its three bays for firetrucks and solar panels that provide 50% of its power.

Those in attendance will also get the chance to see some of the station’s anti-cancer features.

Attendees will see the state-of-the-art high pressure ventilation system, which enhances the removal of diesel exhaust carcinogens in bays and prevents exhaust fumes from reaching interior areas.

A room to store firefighters’ personal protective equipment that is outfitted with a ventilation system that prevents fumes and vapors firefighters come into contact with away from other parts of the station will also be available for viewing.

Construction on the station began in May 2018.

A set date for when the station will be in service hasn’t been determined, but it will be by the end of the month, according to the release.

Station 7 will mostly serve residents in southeast Tempe.

We want to hear from you.
