Friday, August 22, 2003. A morning trail ride in the desert near Cave Creek and Loop 101 came to an abrupt and gruesome end with the discovery of the body of 20-year-old Jack Myrick. He’d been murdered.
Phoenix Police Sgt. Jamie Rothschild says, “Myrick was a self-taught musician. He taught himself to play the guitar, the bass and the drums. He just had an ear for music.”
His mom relives his loss every day.
“When she sees people who are the age he would have been, she’s tormented with grief because those folks have been able to live out their dreams and live fulfilled lives while her son never had that chance,” says Rothschild.

Sgt. Rothschild says these crimes happened at several locations throughout the Phoenix area in September and October of 2019.
In one surveillance video, Rothschild says, “He’s holding what looks like a sharpened stick or dowel that was made into a weapon. He’s threatening the clerk and he’s taking cigarettes.”
Another camera angle shows a second person that appears to be acting as a lookout while the crime is happening.
