PHOENIX — The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is hosting benefits this week to raise funds for fallen Officer Gene Lee’s family.

A barbecue fundraiser will be held Tuesday at the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association at 1102 W. Adams Street in downtown Phoenix from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The benefit will serve hot dogs and burgers.

According to the event’s Facebook page, the entire community is invited to show their support for Lee’s family.

The sheriff’s office will also hold a car wash fundraiser for Lee’s family on Wednesday.

The event will be held from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cobblestone Auto Spa at 15816 N. Pima Road in Scottsdale.

Lee was attacked by an inmate at the Lower Buckeye Jail on Oct. 29. He landed head first on the concrete and lost consciousness.

He was transported to Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix where he died from his injuries the next day.

We want to hear from you.
