PHOENIX – An East Valley ice cream shop that pasteurizes its sweet treats is offering $1 cones during its grand opening festivities Saturday.

The Screamery debuted its second metro Phoenix location in Chandler last month but waited until this weekend for the celebration special.

The new shop is on Arizona Avenue just south of Chandler Boulevard in the Overstreet mixed-used development.

The ice cream is handcrafted with hormone-free milk and cream plus natural ingredients, according to the shop’s website, which also says the Screamery was Arizona’s first shop certified to pasteurize its ice cream.

The menu features more than 20 flavors that change regularly with a variety of fanciful sundae options, including Ice Cream Nachos with waffle chips and hot fudge.

For a hungry group, check out the Farmhouse, an eight-scoop concoction served on a cookie, a brownie and a slice of butter cake with unlimited toppings.

If two ravenous eaters can finish off a Farmhouse within five minutes, they’ll win T-shirts and get their photo on the shop’s wall of fame.

The Chandler shop’s hours are 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sundays-Thursdays and 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

The Screamery also has five locations in Tucson, where it got started, plus one that opened in 2018 at Tatum and Shea boulevards in Phoenix.

The $1 special is good only at the Chandler store.

We want to hear from you.
