PHOENIX – Developers broke ground Tuesday on the first office building in a sprawling new business complex in Mesa.

The four-building project, which is called Union, is being built in the Riverview District near Dobson Road and Rio Salado Parkway.

Representatives from Lincoln Property Company, Harvard Investments and the city of Mesa were joined by area business and community leaders during the ceremony.

“Mesa’s Riverview District has grown into an epicenter of shopping, food, entertainment and jobs with easy access to freeways and neighborhoods,” Mayor John Giles said in press release.

“I look forward to watching Union evolve as an employment centerpiece for the District and our residents.”

The first building, which is expected to be completed in October 2020, will be four stories high and total 238,348 square feet.

Located at the northeast corner of the project, it will overlook the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway.

Union’s buildings will range from four to eight stories and total 1.35 million square feet of Class A office space on 28.2 acres, according to the release.

In July, WageWorks, a California-based health benefits company, became the first company to commit to space in Union.
