PHOENIX — A hit-and-run in Chandler on Monday evening left a father and his young son dead, authorities said.

A dark-colored 2012-2016 Dodge Durango traveling northbound on Alma School Road struck the two pedestrians, who were crossing at Erie Street at approximately 5:45 p.m, Chandler Police Detective Seth Tyler said in an email.

Mohammad Misbah Uddin, 50, of Bangladesh was pronounced dead at the scene and his 12-year-old son was taken to a hospital, Tyler said.

The child died Tuesday evening, according to Chandler police.

Police were searching for the vehicle and driver, who had been going at least 40 mph, the posted speed limit, when it entered the crosswalk area.

Tyler told KTAR News 92.3 FM that based on the estimated speed at impact, the vehicle likely would have damage to the front end and possibly the windshield.

The incident forced the closure of Alma School Road in both directions, northbound at Flint Street and southbound at Galveston Street.

No other information was immediately available.
