PHOENIX – The Southeast Valley town of Queen Creek has agreed to annex Encanterra, a neighboring resort community.

The Town Council voted in favor of the annexation last week, giving final approval to a process that began in June 2018.

“We have the responsibility to provide outstanding service to all of our residents and businesses, so we do not make these decisions lightly,” Mayor Gail Barney said in a press release.

“We are pleased to welcome Encanterra to Queen Creek.”

If the move goes uncontested, the annexation will go into effect Nov. 19 following a 30-day waiting period.

With the annexation, Queen Creek Fire and Medical Department will replace Rural Metro as the Encanterra’s fire and medical service provider. The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office will provide law enforcement.

Petitions in favor of the annexation were submitted by 62% of Encanterra’s property owners, the release said, surpassing the required standard of 50% plus one.

The annexed area covers about 775 acres, a little more than 1 square mile, adjacent to the southeast edge of Queen Creek at Combs and Gantzel roads.

Encanterra has been part of San Tan Valley, an unincorporated community in Pinal County.

About 45 minutes southeast of downtown Phoenix, the community features a private Tom Lehman-designed course golf course and two resort clubs.

The residential portion of Encanterra includes all-ages neighborhoods plus sections for residents ages 55 and older.
