PHOENIX — The westbound Loop 202 saw unusual activity Saturday morning as lines of cars were caught driving the wrong way on the McClintock Drive on-ramp to avoid traffic closures on the 202.
The Arizona Department of Transportation Twitter account posted several photos of the incident with cars facing different directions on what should have been a one-way road.
On-ramps are not for escaping traffic. These drivers, who didn’t heed our many closure announcements, headed into the closure on L-202 WB Santan. Now they’re putting other drivers at risk by driving wrong-way up the McClintock onramp. That’s a Trooper turning them around. pic.twitter.com/y9pY7Rb8as

Officers were able to clear the area to properly direct traffic on the ramp.
It’s a busy weekend for road closures in the Valley.
The westbound Loop 202 Santan and South Mountain freeways will be closed between Kyrene Road and the Interstate 10 from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 p.m. Saturday and between I-10 and 40th Street from 4 p.m. Saturday and 5 a.m. Monday for freeway construction.
There are also roadway closures on the Loop 101, Chandler Boulevard and the Interstate 17.
