PHOENIX — In 2013, a couple of real Grinches took advantage of the Christmas break at Glendale Community College.

Phoenix police Sgt. Darren Burch said, “The first crime happened between Dec. 14 and Dec. 27, and the second one happened the morning of Jan. 1.”

Two men pulled up in either a dark-colored Chevy or GMC two-door pick-up and helped themselves to sound and lighting equipment from the Performing Arts Center of the school.

In the first burglary, they got away with $100,000 worth of equipment. The men got away with another $20,000 worth of school property the second time they hit.

“The key to solving this one is really the community,” said Burch.

The next case should serve as a reminder that you should always watch your back, no matter where you are. It happened at The Edge Apartments on 40th Street near Greenway Road on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at about 9:00 p.m.

A 24-year-old woman was exercising in the workout room at the apartment complex, and as she left and was walking through the hallway, she was grabbed from behind. She was able to fight him off the suspect and flee.

“This was an attempted sexual abuse and kidnapping,” said Burch. “He definitely grabbed her. Luckily, she was able to fight him off, but we need to get this guy off the streets.”
