Police fatally shoot armed suspect in confrontation west of Phoenix

PHOENIX – Police in a suburb west of Phoenix said officers shot and killed a suspect who allegedly had fired at them and another person Sunday.
It was the 29th law enforcement-involved shooting in the Valley of the year and second of the day.
Authorities said Buckeye police and deputies from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office had been responding to a shooting called in near Lower Buckeye and Watson roads around 6:10 p.m.
They arrived to find a man with life-threatening wounds. The victim, 21-year-old Jose A. Granados-Zuno, was taken to a hospital.

Officers and deputies found the suspected shooter, 26-year-old Jose Eduardo Flores, a short time later. They said Flores shot at them and police returned fire, hitting him.
Flores was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sheriff’s office is handling the investigation.
Hours earlier in Glendale, a 17-year-old boy was killed in gunfire with police at a crowded warehouse party near 68th and Northern avenues.
