Tragedy can strike at anytime.
A life can be ended in an instant. That’s what happened to 14-year-old Karen Gavino on January 19, 2005. She and her 9-year-old brother, Daniel, were on the corner of 43rd Avenue and Thomas Road when a car jumped the curb and struck Karen. She was pronounced dead at St. Joseph’s Hospital a short time later.
There were three vehicles, including the one involved in the crash, present at the scene. None stopped. The car that struck Karen is a small, white vehicle that is possibly a Chevrolet Corsica.

Our next unsolved crime involved a snatch-and-run theft in Phoenix.
The suspect entered a Burger King on 67th Avenue and Van Buren and placed a food order. He then grabbed the necklace from the victim’s neck and, after a short scuffle, ran out the door and jumped on a city bus.
