PHOENIX – Even the runway at the nearby airport is quiet. It’s 3 in the morning, Wednesday, September 8th, 2010.

A car backs-up to the back door of the Flight Line Bar & Grill on 19th avenue north of Deer Valley Road, Phoenix police sergeant Darren Burch says.

“And the suspects get out of the vehicle, and one of them is dressed head to toe, completely covered,” Burch said. “He has some type of painter’s garb over his head. All you can see is maybe the area of his eyes. The other suspect looks to be a white male. He’s wearing a cap and sunglasses. It’s really hard to tell how old they are.”

Burch says both men had their arms and hands covered as well.

“They used a crowbar to try to open the back of the door to this bar,” Burch said. “(They) make entry, go inside, and then have some type of hydraulic jack device that’s able to remove the floor safe, and they make off with the safe and the contents inside.”

Burch says they were even able to get past the alarm system.

“They’re very fast, they know what they’re doing, they go in, remove the safe, and just take the whole safe and leave,” Burch said.

We don’t know if it’s the same guys, but there’ve been several of these types of burglaries across the valley recently.

“This is one of many where the floor safe has been removed and it takes technical knowledge to do that,” Burch said.

However, the slick thieves weren’t knowledgeable enough to get past the surveillance cameras.

“We just hope that someone looks at the picture and may be able to identify the vehicle and tie it all together,” Burch said.
