PHOENIX – There is an update on a memorable case KTAR first brought you a couple of years ago. It happened June 14th, 2007 about 1 a.m. at a home near 48th street and the 202 freeway. An intruder attacked an 8-year-old girl.
“[He] snuck through the window, got on top of her, began to undress her and was going to molest her when she screamed, luckily, awakened the family, which was in the same room as her,” said Phoenix Police Sergeant Darren Burch. “She had siblings in the same room with her.”
Burch says the girls parents, in the next room, also woke to her screams and the intruder took off. Now, Sgt. Burch says they know who the guy is.
“We have a good picture of this individual, we know that he is linked to this crime because some time after this crime he was found trespassing around a trailer,” said Burch. “He was arrested and processed for both finger prints and DNA and now we know this is the same individual.”
Phoenix police say he is 34-year-old Juan Salvador Acevedo. He is about 5 feet 8 inches tall, 150 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair.”
“What’s concerning about this suspect is not just crime he committed but the way he committed it,” said Burch. “It was so brazen to go into this home when they parents are there and to sneak in like a cat burglar. Very brazen, wasn’t afraid of getting caught. There is no doubt this guy will continue this type of crime until we stop him.”
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Acevedo is asked to call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
