PHOENIX – Ballots for an upcoming mail-only election day have begun to be sent out, the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office said.

Nearly 2 million voters will receive ballots for Nov. 5 elections focused mostly on Phoenix-area school districts.

Ballots went out Wednesday and should arrive over the next few days, county elections chief Adrian Fontes said in a video posted Wednesday on social media.

Everyone eligible will get a by-mail ballot whether or not they are on a permanent early-voter list.

“There are ballots on pallets at post offices all over Maricopa County,” he said, adding that 75% of the county’s voters were eligible to participate.

More than two dozen school districts – 26 – from Avondale to Queen Creek will await results of bond measures.

Voters in Fountain Hills will be choosing the sanitary district’s board of directors while Scottsdale residents have a bond issue to decide.

The elections department wants all ballots in the mail by Oct. 30 to give postal workers a fair amount of lead time.

Otherwise, ballots can be dropped off in person at voting centers by 7 p.m., when polls close on Election Day.
