West Valley police department donates retired cruiser to school program

PHOENIX — A West Valley police department has made a donation to a local school program.

The Surprise Police Department last week handed over the keys of a retired cruiser to Western Maricopa Education Center (West-MEC) Northwest Campus, according to a press release.

The 2012 Dodge Charger had more than 100,000 miles of public service and was up for replacement in accordance with city policies.

Students in the school’s law, public safety and security program will use the cruiser for a variety of training scenarios, according to the release.

The vehicle will not be operated on public roadways, Surprise police said.

West-MEC is a career training school for high school and adult students.

It offers a two-year program in public safety and security that teaches students basic skills in use of force, first aid, defensive tactics and patrol functions.
