PHOENIX — After announcing plans to open its Section 8 housing waitlist this month for the first time since 2016, Chandler delayed the move.
The East Valley suburb said last week it would take Section 8 applications from 8 a.m. on Oct. 14 through noon on Oct. 25.
But on Tuesday the city said, without an explanation why, it was putting that plan on hold until further notice.
The program gives U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development funding to low-income families, the elderly and disabled to help with housing costs.
Households must meet income limits in order to be eligible for the program:
- one-person: $25,500
- two-person: $29,200
- three-person: $32,850
- four-person: $36,450
- five-person: $39,400
- six-person: $42,300
- seven-person: $45,200
- eight-person: $48,150
Applicants need to provide Social Security numbers, birth dates and household income for all family members.
Whenever applications do open, the form can be filled out online. Free computer access is offered at these locations.
