PHOENIX – If you expect to be driving on Interstate 10 in the West Valley on Saturday, prepare for major traffic hassles.
In addition to evening events at both of Glendale’s major sports and entertainment venues, a segment of eastbound I-10 in west Phoenix will be closed for construction work.
A total of more than 50,000 people are expected at the Monster Jam truck competition at State Farm Stadium and the Arizona Coyotes home opener against the Boston Bruins at Gila River Arena.
The Monster Jam main show starts at 7 p.m., and the hockey game starts at 6 p.m. Tailgating is allowed in the stadium and arena lots, but not the neighboring Westgate Entertainment District parking areas.

Authorities are advising fans to plan on arriving at their events by 5 p.m., with traffic expected to be heaviest between 4 and 7 p.m.
And if you’re getting a late start, be aware that westbound I-10 will be reduced to two lanes from I-17 to 43rd Avenue from 8 p.m. Saturday until early Monday morning for a freeway widening project.
State Farm Stadium parking lots open at 1 p.m., with a preshow pit party inside that requires separate admission set for 2:30-5:30 p.m.
Fans at the pit party can view the trucks up close and meet drivers for photos and autographs.
Gila River Arena lots also open at 1 p.m., with doors opening at 4:30 p.m. Coyotes fans should access parking by exiting the Loop 101 at Glendale Avenue.
If you’re attending the events from Phoenix and other points east of Glendale, don’t plan on taking I-10 home. The eastbound lanes will be closed from 67th and 43rd avenues through Monday morning for paving work.
The eastbound I-10 on-ramps at 91st, 83rd, 79th and 75th avenues will also be closed.
Motorists can get traffic information Saturday by visiting az511.gov, calling 511 and following the Glendale Police Department on Twitter.
