PHOENIX — Beers, bikes and benevolence are taking over downtown Tempe this weekend.
The annual Tour de Fat bike parade and fundraising effort to support local bike-related nonprofits returns Saturday for the 20th year.
The free event begins at 11 a.m. with a bike parade launching at Mill Avenue and Rio Salado Parkway. The hour-long ride will make a 3.5-mile loop around downtown Tempe.
Festivities, including a pool party and dance contest, will take place at Tempe Beach Park from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Musical guest Kolars is also set to perform at 5 p.m. at the park.
Proceeds from the event, which is sponsored by New Belgium Brewing, will go to Tempe Bicycle Action Group, Bike Saviours and the Central Arizona Mountain Bike Patrol.
Tour de Fat has raised more than $5 million for local bike nonprofits since it began, according to its website.
Tempe is the final of three stops on this year’s tour. Fort Collins, Colorado, and Asheville, North Carolina, were also part of the tour.
