PHOENIX – Highway troopers stopped a wrong-way driver speeding on a Phoenix freeway early Wednesday morning, the second of the week.
A spokesman for the Arizona Department of Public Safety said the woman got on Interstate 17 at Yorkshire Drive, near Bell Road, around 2:30 a.m.
Along with her having set off wrong-way detectors at the ramp, witnesses called authorities reporting a Jeep heading southbound in northbound lanes.
Patrol officers managed to stop the 49-year-old near Northern Avenue, about 7 miles from her starting point.
Officers boxed her in, their vehicles taking minor damage in the process.
No other details were immediately available.
Earlier in the week, five people were injured Monday night in a wreck on I-17, where a driver smashed into three cars.
The driver, a man from Cave Creek, went against traffic from Jefferson Street to Thomas Road.
