93-year-old man dead after vehicle ends up in pond in Sun City West

PHOENIX — One person died and another was hospitalized after a vehicle ended up in a pond in Sun City West on Tuesday evening, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
Sgt. Calbert Gillett said deputies responded to a Fry’s near R H Johnson and Meeker boulevards for a report of car in a pond that was sinking.
Bystanders and rescue crews removed the 93-year-old male driver and a 93-year-old woman from the car, Gillett said.
The man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries and later pronounced dead.
The woman was responsive and taken to the hospital for precautionary treatment.
Circumstances surrounding the incident were unknown, according to Gillett.
