PHOENIX – A small town southeast of Phoenix made big strides towards building a new fire station.
The town of Queen Creek broke ground Wednesday on Fire Station 4, located on Signal Butte Road.
The new fire station brings Queen Creek one step closer to the proposed fire master plan, which calls for five firefighting facilities.
The station will be constructed to hold three bays and will include a law enforcement substation, according to the press release.
Mayor Gail Britney stated at the groundbreaking ceremony that,”as a community, we are very excited about this project…we are committed to safety, strategic growth, and fiscally sound decisions.”
The site will only be able to host one crew at first, but it is being built to hold more crew members in the near future.
When the Queen Creek Fire and Medical Department was established in 2008, less than 26,000 people lived in the town.
Now, there are over 52,000 citizens living in Queen Creek.
