PHOENIX — A jury indicted a Tucson man accused of posing as a pharmacy employee and stealing cancer patients’ opioid medications, the Arizona Attorney General’s Office announced Thursday.
Juan Carlos Hernandez, 31, was charged with one count of fraud and four counts of computer tampering.
According to the indictment, Hernandez illegally accessed patient information, including prescription histories and addresses, while working at a Banner Health cancer center.
He allegedly posed as a pharmacy employee and contacted patients, telling them their opioid medications were expired or being recalled.
He would then reportedly go the patients’ homes to collect the drugs.
The case was investigated by the attorney’s office Heath Care Fraud and Abuse Section.
