Scottsdale private investigator given probation for tricking banks

PHOENIX — A long-time Scottsdale private investigator was sentenced to three years’ probation for lying about his identity to banks.
Keven Lawrence Cody McCleve, 61, was sentenced Sept. 9 for practice of making pretextual phone calls, U.S. Attorney’s Office District of Arizona said in a press release Friday.
In addition to the probation, he was ordered to pay a $5,000 fine. He was also forced to give up his professional licenses and not acquire any while on probation.
According to the release, McCleve worked as a licensed private investigator for over 30 years. During that time, he would call banks and other financial institutions and lie about his identity, according to the release.
When investigating different individuals, he would give banks the individual’s social security number, date of birth and other identifiable information.
The institutions would often provide the information about the individual’s bank account balances and recent transactions.
