PHOENIX – Phoenix’s Circular Sun House, the last residence designed by legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright, is going up for auction.

According to the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation website, the master designed the house in 1959, and apprentice John Rattenbury took over as architect after Wright’s death in Phoenix that year at age 91.

The three-bedroom, three-bathroom home was completed in 1967 on 36th Street north of Lincoln Drive, on the edge of the Phoenix Mountains Preserve.

It’s been on and off the market several times since 2016 and was most recently listed for $2.65 million.

Previews will be held Oct. 11-14 and Oct. 16, and the live auction will begin at 2 p.m. Oct. 16.

Bidding will be accepted either in person or by phone, not online, according to Heritage Auctions, which is conducting the sale.

There is no minimum bid, but all potential buyers must qualify in advance and provide proof of funds.

The structure, also known as the Norman Lykes Home, has circular rooms and curving walls built with concrete blocks to blend with its natural surroundings.

The residence is 3,095 square feet on a private 1.3-acre lot. It features a master suite with a balcony and a second-story office with 360-degree views.

The grounds include ample patio space and a crescent pool lined with mother of pearl.

“Spectacular inside and out, yet noticeably calming, its curves follow the mountain backdrop,” Anne Stupp, Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation trustee, said on the foundation’s website.

The home’s mid-century modern furnishings are included in the sale.
