PHOENIX – Crews are working to get the TPC Scottsdale golf club ready for the Waste Management Phoenix Open earlier than ever.
Scaffolding near the 12th hole of the Stadium Course started going up this week, more than four months before the event, which runs Jan. 27-Feb. 2.
It’s the earliest construction start in the tournament’s history, according to a press release. Construction typically begins at the end of September or early October.
Work on the signature 16th hole is scheduled to start Oct. 7, when the course closes for overseeding.
With its famous party atmosphere, No. 16 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open was ranked as one the 10 most exciting holes on the PGA Tour by Golf Digest.

Tickets for the 2020 Waste Management Phoenix Open went on sale in July and are available on the tournament’s website.
The 2019 event raised $13.2 million for Arizona charities, the most in tournament history.
The Thunderbirds, the group that hosts the tournament, have raised more than $81 million for local charities since 2010, when Waste Management became title sponsor.
