Here’s where 9/11 memorials are happening in the Valley this week

PHOENIX — Cities and towns across the Valley are holding events this week to commemorate the 18th anniversary of 9/11 on Wednesday.

From Tuesday through Saturday, groups in the Phoenix area are holding ceremonies, volunteer projects, physical challenges and more.

Here are some of the events:

Tempe Healing Field 

The tribute at Tempe Beach Park will feature over 3,000 American flags to represent the victims of the 9/11 attacks.

A patriotic concert will take place Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Organizers will hold a tribute ceremony Wednesday at 5:46 a.m. and a candlelight vigil at 7 p.m.

Glendale 9/11 Tower Challenge

Participants will climb 2,071 steps at Gila River Arena to represent the 110 floors of the Twin Towers.

The climb begins at 8 a.m. Organizers are also holding tower challenges in Tucson and Flagstaff.

Phoenix 9/11 Memorial Ceremony

The city of Phoenix will hold a memorial ceremony at City Hall on Wednesday, 9-10 a.m.

Avondale public art dedication

The city of Avondale will dedicate the “Service. Strength. Sacrifice.” public art display at City Hall on Wednesday at 9 a.m.

The exhibit includes more than 100 patches that represent first responders across the state.

Scottsdale 9/11 Memorial Ride

Harley-Davidson Motorcycles of Scottsdale will host a 9/11 memorial ride Wednesday, starting with a presentation from a retired deputy chief of the Jersey City Fire Department at 9 a.m.

The ride begins at 10:30 a.m. and will head north toward Prescott, visiting fire stations along the way.

Carefree 9/11 Reflection

Carefree resident and former Marine Corps sergeant Bob Jenkins will speak about his experience being on the 39th floor of the World Trade Center when the first plane hit.

The reflection begins at 6 p.m. at the Town Council Chambers.

Phoenix 9/11 Day Meal Pack

An organization called 9/11 Day will hold a meal-packing service event at the Phoenix Convention Center on Wednesday, 6-8 p.m.

Mesa 9/11 Heroes Run

The Travis Manion Foundation will hold a 5K race and 1-mile fun run Saturday at the ASU Polytechnic Campus.

The event begins at 6:30 a.m., with the race starting at 8 am. and the fun run at 8:45 a.m.
