Man accused of assaulting woman sleeping on Tempe light rail

PHOENIX — Tempe police announced Thursday that they arrested a suspect accused of sexually assaulting a sleeping woman on the light rail last month.
Police said Alfonso Stanley, 33, allegedly placed his hand down the victim’s pants on Aug. 19 while she was asleep on the train near Apache Boulevard and Dorsey Lane.
The victim woke up during the incident and took photos of the suspect, who got off the train at Rural Road and University Drive around 10:15 a.m. and headed east by foot, according to police.
Police also released surveillance photos from the light rail platform.
In a press release, they thanked the public for helping identify Stanley.
He was booked into jail for one count of sexual abuse and two counts of assault.
