PHOENIX – Arizona DUI arrests over Labor Day weekend were down slightly from a year ago overall, and extreme DUI cases declined sharply, according to statistics from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.
The agency said 625 motorists were arrested for DUI from Aug. 30 to Sept. 2, a decline from 678 for the 2018 holiday weekend.
Of this year’s arrests, 106 were for extreme DUI, which is having a blood alcohol content about .15.
That number was more than 25% lower than the 147 extreme DUI arrests during Labor Day weekend last year.
There were also 15 arrests for underage DUI and 130 drug related DUI this past weekend.
Overall, there were 2,678 participating officers and deputies that conducted 14,289 traffic stops during the long weekend.
