PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Public Safety said authorities stopped two wrong-way drivers early Monday.
Around 2:40 a.m., a driver was reported going south in northbound Loop 101 lanes at Bell Road.
Troopers traveling north on the freeway saw a Toyota Tundra approaching them in the HOV lane and avoided a collision.
The Tundra then exited the freeway, DPS said, and troopers followed it to Northern Avenue and conducted a traffic stop.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI. No one was injured.
Around the same time, a Buckeye Valley Fire Department ambulance stopped a wrong-way driver, DPS said.
The vehicle had been going north in southbound State Route 85 lanes, south of Interstate 10, around 2:55 a.m.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of aggravated DUI.
