Suspect in custody following Phoenix officer-involved shooting
PHOENIX — Phoenix police was investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred near 36th Street and McDowell Road on Tuesday evening.
No officers were injured and a suspect is in custody, Phoenix Police Detective Luis Samudio said in an email.
The shooting happened at 36th Street and Palm Lane, Samudio said.
In an update provided Wednesday afternoon, the suspect was identified as 32-year-old Anastacio Pasqual Pacheco.
Police said they were responding to a call about a man shooting into the air in the backyard of a residence.
When they knocked on the door, Pacheco answered while holding a rifle, according to the update.
Police said an officer fired through a metal screen door after the suspect ignored commands and raised the rifle.
Pacheco wasn’t hit by a bullet. He dropped the weapon and complied after the shooting, police said.
He was treated for metal fragments at the hospital before being booked on felony charges of aggravated assault on police, prohibited possession of a firearm and discharging of a firearm within city limits.
Two weeks after the incident, the officer who fired at Pacheco was identified as 38-year-old Jose A. Jarvis, who has nine years of service.
